Goddesses aren't so infallible. You'll see.
― Thetis, Episode 103

Thetis is a sea nymph, sister to Amphitrite, mother to Achilles, and Zeus's former personal secretary and paramour.

She first appears in Episode 35.

Appearance[]

Thetis is a nymph with long white hair with curls at the ends, which she often wears in a bun. Instead of ears, she has large fins on the sides of her head. She has silver-grey skin and the areas around her eyes and fins are turquoise. When feeling strong emotions, her hair appears to melt and looks similar to water.

Most of the clothing she wears is colored white and is minimalist in design. She is often seen wearing office clothing and earbuds while at work.

Personality[]

Thetis is selfish, manipulative, scheming and competitive. Her main relationships, including the sexual relationship she has with Zeus and her toxic friendship with Minthe, are not based on real feelings, but rather her own desire to get ahead. When Thetis found out that Minthe had achieved a public relationship with Hades, something Thetis desires with Zeus, she sabotages Minthe's dinner plans with Hades due to jealousy. She uses manipulative tactics to get what she wants and plays on other's insecurities and fears. She is also seen as somewhat lazy at her job, choosing to browse social media rather than get any work done. It is implied her position is largely due to her relationship with Zeus.

Relationships[]

Parents[]

Nereus[]

Thetis is revealed to be another one of Nereus' daughters but due to her involvement with Persephone and Demeter's trial, he quickly dismisses her and refuses to help her get her cousin Leuce out of the house he had previously given to Thetis.

Siblings[]

Amphitrite[]

Amphitrite's is Thetis' sister, but their relationship is unknown aside from the fact Thetis is angry over their father's favouritism towards Amphitrite. Unlike Thetis, Amphitrite is honourable.

Themisto[]

Themisto is Thetis' sister, but their relationship is unknown.

Romantic[]

Peleus[]

Peleus was Thetis's husband during her time in the Mortal Realm, and the father of her son Achilles. Very little information is known about their relationship. Based on Thetis' own personality, and how she described their son being part mortal as "gross," their relationship was likely for political gain rather than love. After the gates are open to return back to Olympus, Thetis wastes no time in returning, leaving Peleus and taking their son with her.

Zeus[]

Thetis was Zeus' personal secretary and was his mistress for many years. Thetis worked under Zeus for some time. At one point, Zeus had another secretary by the name of Anna, but Thetis was quick to get rid of her, as she didn't like "sharing" Zeus. Zeus often slept with Thetis after arguments with Hera, although he always told her afterwards that it could never happen again. Thetis, knowing that he said it every time, believed she had him wrapped around her finger.

Thetis zeus

Zeus and Thetis' affair.

Thetis made it a goal for Zeus to leave Hera for herself, believing she had a real chance at becoming the Queen. She shows great hatred towards Hera, calling her an "old cow" when seeing a picture of her and Zeus on Zeus' desk. After she sees Minthe's relationship status with Hades on Fatesbook, she states that she needs to step up her game, jealous over Minthe doing better than her.

When Thetis tries to call Zeus after he leaves work without saying goodbye, he furiously tells her she that is not allowed to call him at home and hangs up on her. Not long after, Thetis confides in Minthe of her plan to get Zeus to leave Hera by sending her nudes of Zeus using a burner phone, revealing that he was once again being unfaithful to her. While Hera seems to be unaware Zeus' sexual relationship with Thetis, Hermes is completely aware of the affair, and tells Minthe to tell Thetis that Zeus will never leave Hera for her.

During Persephone's trial, Thetis arrives to report Minthe's "murder." As she argues with Thanatos, he snaps at her and states that she only wanted Minthe to be with Hades so that she would have someone to hang out with when Zeus takes her to the country club. As Hera is watching the trial from afar, Zeus nervously asks them to stay on topic.

Sometime after the trial, Zeus permanently ended their relationship for her involvement in the case and possibly to prevent Hera from discovering their affair. Zeus also banished her to the Mortal Realm, arranging an engagement between Thetis and a mortal king named Peleus.

Children[]

Achilles[]

Thetis and son 2

Thetis and Achilles

Achilles is Thetis' half-mortal infant son. Thetis appears to treat her son like a pet, keeping him beside her with a leash and referring to him as "gross" because he is part mortal. However, she also states that he is good at everything, so it cancels out. Thetis is shown to have her son with her at all times.

Enemies[]

Hera[]

Thetis resents Hera for being queen and knows Zeus will never leave her despite his infidelity. While she knows Zeus won't leave her, she tries to get Hera mad at him enough by sending his nudes to her that he sent to other women. Minthe told it was a big mistake as Hera can be wrathful when it comes to Zeus and his mistresses, and since the Fates has Thetis's tape of her future, it can be implied Hera will find out about Thetis and that she sent the nudes to her and will punish her.

Minthe[]

Minthe thetis

Minthe and Thetis' first meeting.

Minthe and Thetis were once best friends with a severely toxic friendship. The two first met when Thetis was already working under Zeus and Minthe was struggling to make ends meet. The first meeting did not go well as Minthe called her an "aqua bitch" after witnessing her tell Anna, another one of Zeus' secretaries, to tell Zeus she finds Hades creepy, but Thetis found her comment amusing. Sometime after, Minthe started working under Hades and the two would become best friends.

Minthe often seeks out Thetis for advice and comfort, and while she often provides it, Thetis will also attempt to undermine Minthe if she is engaging in progress in having a healthy relationship with Hades because of her jealously of Minthe‘s official relationship status with Hades when her own relationship with Zeus will never work because he is married to Hera. Minthe in turn has also made comments in regards to Thetis taking whatever she could from Zeus as he's a married man.

Minthe warns Thetis.

When Thetis found out Minthe would be having dinner with Hades, she decided to prevent Minthe from going by taking her out for drinks beforehand and getting her too drunk. Despite Minthe easily trusting Thetis in the past, she eventually stands her ground and tries to cut her off after realizing Hades was right when he told her Thetis was not her friend. After Thanatos and Thetis come to her apartment with a plan to bring down Persephone, the two are friends once more as they attempt to win over Hades and Zeus.

When Hades scolds Minthe and tells her Persephone isn't fired, she angrily calls Thetis telling her Hades doesn't know yet, and tells her that if her (Thetis) plans fails she, Thanatos and Minthe herself will pay the price for it. In episode 151, Thetis discovers that the planned failed through Thanatos and both nymphs learn that Hades and Persephone kissed. Realizing the severity of the trouble they'll face, Thetis tells Minthe that it's best they don't be seen around each other for a while until everything calms down. Unknown to Thetis for some time, Minthe had accidentally been cursed by Persephone and transformed into a plant.

Minthe thetis 2

Thetis arrives to court with Minthe.

During Persephone and Demeter's trial, Thetis arrives to court with Minthe, discovering she was cursed, and wants to report she was "murder." Thetis reveals she broke into Hades' home to find her and 'cries' over the tragedy but puts the blame on Minthe and Thanatos for reporting Persephone and Demeter, claiming she only did it because Minthe was her best friend. Thanatos argues that Thetis only created the plan so she could have Minthe to hangout with at the country clubs Zeus would take her and expresses how Thetis was only friends with Minthe because she was vulnerable to her. Stating how Thetis could keep Minthe under her thumb and easily bring her down whenever Minthe was showing she was being better then her, Thanatos breaks down in frustration over how far Thetis took this scheme.

Ten years later, Thetis meets with Minthe and tells her she heard rumors she was living here now and went to visit her. She then comments by saying she looks terrible only for Minthe to ask about the child with her. Thetis introduces her son Achilles to Minthe and explains he's part mortal which she finds gross, but his talents make up for it. She then proceeds to tell Minthe she's also a queen now and it was "fun while it lasted", but now that realm travel is back, she wants "to wreak havoc again".

Thetis then proceeds to explain to Minthe that her cousin told her a rumor about Hades and is going to meet up with them in the city to go shopping. Minthe, who has changed a lot during the ten years realizes Thetis is still up to her same behaviors, tells her no. Not understanding, Thetis tells her to grab her bag and they can leave. Minthe then finally explains to her she realizes their friendship is a toxic one. Minthe proceeds to explain that anytime they're together, they do nothing but bring out the worst in each other, even noting Thetis hasn't changed in the slightest over the past ten years. She officially ends the friendship with Thetis and wishes her the best in the future before walking away. Thetis, realizing she can no longer take advantage of Minthe, angrily hollers back at Minthe to go to hell.

Thanatos[]

Thanatos, Minthe, and Thetis all part take in a group called the "Snarky Chat". It's likely they all get along and they all like to talk badly about their coworkers. He is seen later with her in front of Minthe's apartment door, wanting to reveal what they found about Persephone. Once Thanatos received answers from Helios, he reports back to Thetis and Minthe where Thetis would come up with the plan to tell Zeus. In Episode 127, Thanatos is with Minthe waiting for Thetis to come back and the three rejoice hearing Persephone is likely to be put on trial for her actions. Thetis has a feeling Zeus is going make an example of Persephone by making her punishment similar to Prometheus, which causes Thanatos to feel guilty as he never wanted the punishment to go so far.

Small victory.

When Thanatos meets with the flower nymph Daphne once again, the two grow closer and he begins to ignore Thetis and Minthe. When they meet at Daphne's yoga class, he shows remorse for what they all did and seems to no longer want to be involved in their plan. As Persephone's begins later, Thanatos would reveal that while he and Minthe took part in reporting Persephone, it was mostly Thetis' plan. Just as he reveals this, Thetis arrives with Minthe, still cursed as a plant, and wishes to report she was 'murdered.'

Thanatos thetis

Thetis threatens Thanatos.

Thetis puts the blame on Minthe and Thanatos, claiming she only went along with it because she was her friend and she thought Persephone should be brought to justice for any crime she committed. Thanatos stands up to Thetis and reveals how she only created this plan so she could have Minthe to hang out with at the country club Zeus would take her if she got Hades to leave Persephone. He then brings up how Thetis was only friends with Minthe because she could control Minthe and bring her down, especially whenever she showed to be better than Thetis. Thanatos breaks down and shouts that he could have resolves his issues if he just went to HR. Seeing Thanatos had decided to turn on her, she leans in to tell him how she was unwillingly to let Thanatos throw her under the bus and jeopardized position. She turns the attention back onto him when she reveals he had broken into Artemis and Persephone's apartment, enraging the goddesses and many others.

At the last day of Persephone's trial, the two are present together where Zeus banishes Persephone and closes the boarders between their realms. As a result, Hades does the same and the brothers feud until Persephone is brought home. Furious over her involvement and no longer trusting Thanatos, Zeus banishes the two to the Mortal Realm where they lived two separate lives. Thetis becomes a Queen after marrying a mortal king and has a son whereas Thanatos reunites Daphne and continued his role as God of Death. It is assumed the two never spoke again and their friendship officially ended.

Persephone[]

Although Persephone and Thetis have had no personal interaction with each other, Thetis has been a source of great torment for Persephone and others revolving her. Upon discovering the article about Persephone spending the night at Hades', she sent it to Minthe and taunted her that she needed to be careful or risk Hades leaving her. Although the situation was cleared between Hades and Minthe and the two declared an official relationship, Thetis was furious at the idea that Minthe could be doing better than her. Thetis would plant seeds of doubt into Minthe by claiming Hades purposely hired Persephone as an interned so he could have her around at all times.

When Thetis arrives to visit Minthe after her abusive episode towards Hades, Minthe believes Hades is with Persephone at the moment to which Thetis claims that Goddess like Persephone aren't infallible. When Thanatos takes it upon himself to break into Artemis and Persephone's house to find proof that she was hiding something, he goes to Thetis before the two go to Minthe. While Thantos would go to Helios for answers, Thetis would be the one to form their plan to tell Zeus about her unauthorized act of wrath so Hades could see what Persephone did and get back together with Minthe.

When Minthe discovers that Zeus had yet to tell Hades about Persephone, she calls Thetis and threatens to let Thetis take fall for her plan if it failed. Although she would fail to trick Zeus, he would tell Hades and Poseidon not long after which only infuriates Hades after Zeus threatens to punish Persephone. As he leaves the meeting, Thetis mistakes his anger as a sign of victory. She later visits Minthe and Thanatos to tells them of Persephone's future trial and excitedly tells them that Persephone could be facing a punishment like Prometheus.

Not long after, Minthe and Thanatos come to realize the plan wasn't working, resulting in Thanatos to avoid them as he started to date Daphne, a flower nymph that was also a friend of Persephone. When hearing about Minthe failed attempted to Hades back and Thantos witnessing Hades and Persephone together, Thetis was angry to not know this from Minthe. When other members of their yoga class talk about Hades and Persephone growing relationship, Thetis suggest that she and Minthe avoid each other for some time.

Persephone's trial would mark the first time the two-meet face to face. As Thanatos gives his testimony, he reveals that it was Thetis who came up with the plan from the very beginning. Thetis arrives shortly after with Minthe, who was now accidentally cursed by Persephone to be a plant. She arrives in tears and attempts to put the blame on Thanatos and Minthe and she had only helped them because of her "commitment to justice." Although Persephone defends herself by stating Minthe wasn't dead but cursed, Thetis claims she had done it so she could be with Hades and is dangerous.

Thanatos, now fed up with Thetis and how far the three of them went, further states that she really wanted to end Hades and Persephone's relationship so Minthe could get back together with Hades and be able to join her at the country club Zeus would take her. Unwillingly to go down for her scheme, Thetis reveals Thanatos going to Helios and breaking into Persephone's room to steal her ledger.
