The Mortal Realm is where humans and some immortals live. It is set in the time of Ancient Greece, and therefore lacks the technology of the godly realms. Occasionally, immortal beings bring technology from Olympus and the Underworld to the Mortal Realm in secret; the nymphs' "forbidden ham radio" and Persephone's "forbidden coffee grinder" are two examples.

The Mortal Realm is where Demeter has chosen to live and run her business Barley Mother, and where Persephone was born and raised. Hades reveals that he was also born in the Mortal Realm, specifically in the region now known as Sicily.

The Mortal Realm has a warm, presumably Mediterranean climate; Persephone mentions that it is too warm for snow there when she sees it for the first time in the Underworld.

History[]

It appears the vast majority of the Titans originally lived in the Mortal Realm, and subsequently the members of the Six Traitors Dynasty were created there. After the Titanomachy, all but Demeter, the Goddess of the Harvest and the Earth, left the Mortal Realm to live on Olympus (or in the Underworld, as was the case with Hades).

Demeter created an extensive agricultural empire in the Mortal Realm, employing numerous nymphs to help her work the land. As an Earth Goddess, Demeter also periodically brought the season of Spring to the Mortal Realm.

At one point, Demeter petitioned Zeus for the right to become the Queen of the Mortal Realm, but Zeus refused her request despite the agreement of the other Gods. Eris reveals that Hades vetoed the idea, as he did not want to lose the rights to his volcanoes. It is later revealed that Zeus had originally voted yes, but was bribed by Hades to change his vote.

Demeter created a daughter, Persephone, in the Mortal Realm. As the Goddess of Spring, Persephone was trained to take over bringing Spring to the realm. After Persephone accidently slaughters a Mortal village, Demeter realizes she cannot control her daughter's great power and allows her to attend college on Olympus. While Persephone is away, Demeter takes over Spring once again.

After the events of Episode 190, the Mortal Realm was cut off from the godly realms for ten years. During this time, Persephone was banished to the Mortal Realm and fulfilled the role of the Goddess of the Harvest and the Earth, taking over all of her mother's duties. Demeter, also banished and stripped of her powers, lived in the Mortal village of Eleusis, separated from her daughter.

When the ban is lifted by Zeus, Demeter returns to her role. Persephone, now a resident of the Underworld due to both her deal with Erebos and her marriage to Hades, no longer lives with her mother. Despite Demeter's chagrin, Persephone refuses to return permanently, although she does return to bring Spring to the realm once more.

However, during the ceremony, Persephone's changed powers bring death and decay to the Mortal Realm instead. Despite both her and her mother's best efforts, the Mortal Realm enters a magical winter, leading to the death of numerous Mortals.

Locations in the Mortal Realm[]

Demeter's Land[]

Demeter resides on a large plot of land where she grows her crops and operates her business. She employs a large number of nymphs to assist her, who also live on her land. Demeter raised her daughter, Persephone, here. Persephone rarely left the boundaries of her mother's property.

Flower Nymph Gardens[]

These gardens were established by Demeter as a special, safe place for Flower Nymph restoration. Demeter also established a treaty with mortals to not trespass. However, a group of mortals disregarded this treaty to expand their city, killing several nymphs in the process. This event would cause Persephone's act of wrath.

Demeter's Vacation Cottage[]

A small cottage that Persephone and her mother would visit while on vacation. It is quaint inside and contains Persephone's loom.

Grand City[]

The Grand City, so named by the muse Polymnia during her account of Persephone's act of wrath, is where Persephone accidently grew a giant tree causing mass destruction. The city is rebuilt by Demeter during her cover-up of the act.

Psyche's Home[]

Psyche is from a human settlement in the Mortal Realm. There is a large Greek temple that dominates this area. Her family are assumed to be wealthy, as she lives in a large home. Eros says that the place is "pretty fancy."

Semele's Home[]

Semele appears to live in a wealthy settlement in the Mortal Realm. A large temple structure, where a party is held, appears to be her home. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades come to the party disguised as mortals so that Zeus can visit Semele. Hades end up finding an abused dog here and takes her home.

Sicily[]

Sicily is the area where Hades was born. At the time it had no name.

Acheron[]

Also known as "The Beach", Acheron is where the Mortal Realm meets the Underworld. Newly deceased souls are deposited here and must pay Charon, the ferryman, a single obol to cross into the afterlife. Shades who cannot pay must wait on the shores of Acheron for 100 years. The Titan Styx resides here.

Leto's Home[]

While banished in the Mortal Realm, Leto lives in a large, gilded home with many windows.

Artemis' Temple[]

Artemis has a large temple devoted to her in the Mortal Realm. Eros refers to it as her "main temple."
