Just be the bitch. That's what everyone expects anyway.
― Minthe to herself, Episode 46

Minthe is a river nymph from the Underworld, a former secretary at Underworld Corp, and Hades' former personal assistant as well as his ex-girlfriend.

Minthe currently resides in the Mortal Realm, where she holds career workshops for other nymphs.

Appearance[]

Minthe is a nymph with scarlet red skin and darker, long straight red hair. She has long, pointed ears like all nymphs that protrude through her hair. She is fairly tall and has a slim yet curvy figure. She typically wears black or dark red clothing in most of her appearances.

When showing strong emotions, her hair appears to melt and becomes gooey and watery in texture.

After getting caught for getting both Persephone and her mother in trouble, she is cursed by Persephone and transformed into a mint plant. As a plant, she sits in a red pot that has a stripe of darker red in the middle. This stripe has a spiky design with a single eye in the middle.

She is later restored to her form as a nymph.

During her time in The Underworld, Minthe wore a variety of modern clothing, mostly that of business attire due to working for Underworld corp, but also large hoodies and sweaters when home. during her time with Hades, she'd wear a variety of lingerie or gowns. For workouts, she'd wear leggings and a sports bra.

After moving to the Mortal Realm, Minthe began to wear a traditional Greek gown that is a similar tone to her skin and goes completely barefoot.

Personality[]

Minthe is a snarky and irritable character. In the past, Minthe had a very self-destructive personality, as a result of being very insecure and self-conscious due to past trauma. She was unable to handle any kindness given to her, acting hostile and distant to those who would otherwise care for her. After she tried to distance herself from Hades and he begins to show interest in Persephone, Minthe recognized the repercussions of her actions and began to feel real jealousy. Despite wanting to improve herself, she struggled with the pressures of commitment and acknowledging her insecurities.

Minthe was easily manipulated by others who were close to her, such as her "best friend" Thetis. Minthe was also a manipulator herself, especially towards Hades, who she often verbally abused and berated.

Minthe desperately wanted to improve and become a better person, unable to understand why she acted the way she did, but continually fell back into her old habits, leading to her self-destruction.

It is later revealed that Minthe's absent mother largely shaped her adult personality, leading to her insecurities and lack of self-worth. After being transformed into a plant by Persephone and remaining that way for 3 years, Minthe had time to reflect on herself. After being restored to her true form, Minthe remains just as snarky as ever. However, after the realization that she is trapped in the Mortal Realm for the foreseeable future due to Persephone's punishment, and after unwittingly assisting a class of young nymphs who are actually thankful to her, Minthe begins to get used to her situation and her mental state improves dramatically. In the present day, she no longer shows the same self-destructive and toxic behaviors she did in the past. She even ends her unhealthy relationship with Thetis, taking a more mature approach.

Relationships[]

Parents[]

Minthe's Mother[]

Minthe and her mother

Minthe and her Mother.

Very little is known about their relationship but at an early age, Minthe could get the sense that her mother did not want to be a mother and was rather detected from her. Although Minthe claims her mother to not be cruel, she was neglectful and continue her life of partying and drinking even after Minthe was born. As a result, Minthe would have problems sleeping as she would overhear her mother's drunken voice and learn how to survive on her own. As Minthe got older, she would eventually go out on her own and evidently hasn't seen her mother in years as she claims to have no idea where she is and only has one picture. Her mother's actions played a large part on Minthe's insecurities and lack of self-worth.

First Meeting.

Hades is Minthe's ex-boyfriend and his former personal assistant at Underworld Corp. Hades and Minthe met during a car show that was meant to be a quick and easy job for Minthe to earn enough money for rent before being evicted. Zeus, intending to prank his brother, took Minthe's hat and placed it on Hades's head. Hades then left with the hat out of embarrassment. Minthe would not get paid for her job with the hat missing, as the owner was claiming it was stolen. Enraged, she marched herself into Underground Corp and viciously yelled at Hades. After hearing her situation, Hades offered her a job. This would lead to him helping her with her living situation, and eventually the two began to date. However, the relationship quickly became toxic. Eros described the two as being the "ultimate on again, off again dumpster fire" as they were constantly arguing and breaking up until getting back together.

Despite their quarrels, Hades cared for Minthe, buying her expensive gifts and paying for her rent. However, Hades also stated he had never been in love, showing that his relationship with Minthe was not based on this feeling. While Minthe appeared to care for Hades in her own way, her commitment issues and insecurities caused her to become abusive towards him. Hades' family, mainly his sister-in-law Hera, showed great dislike for her, which played into Minthe's insecurities, making her feel like "nymph trash" and worsening her perception of her relationship with Hades. Minthe would even carry on an affair with one of her friends and coworkers, Thanatos, behind Hades' back. Hades later reveals that he knew all along and never said anything.

Despite the toxicity of their relationship, Hades had decided to propose to Minthe, later telling his brothers that he believed she would make an "okay" Queen of the Underworld. Upon discovering the ring in Hades' coat pocket, Minthe panicked at the idea of becoming Queen. Recalling his family's dislike and indifference towards her, she decided to distance herself from Hades to change his mind. When Hades called her about attending the Panathenaea party, where he was going to propose, she chose not to accompany him, instead insulting him and telling him that she didn't feel like being seen in public with him. By Minthe not showing up to the party, Hades would instead meet Persephone, quickly falling for her in the brief morning they spent together. He ghosts Minthe for the weekend and tells his brothers about the proposal situation, before destroying the engagement ring on their advice.

Later at work, Minthe tries to be playful about not coming to the party, but Hades is upset and the two argue before Hecate walks in. Minthe discovers an article with a picture of Persephone leaving Hades' house, which causes her to confront him out of jealously and anger. Hades explains what really happened that night but is shocked to see this side of her. While their relationship is on the rocks, Persephone arrives to request a meeting with Hades, and a jealous Minthe sends her to Tower 4, which puts her life at risk. Minthe's jealousy worsens when Hades announces that Persephone is now an intern at the company and Minthe catches the two laughing and holding hands. Hades and Minthe fight to the side, ending with Hades taking Persephone home and Minthe in tears.

Minthe's fear of marriage and becoming Queen.

Later that night, Minthe decides that while she doesn't want to marry Hades, she doesn't want to lose him to "Miss Perfect." She shows up at Hades' home, admitting to messing up by missing the party and explaining how she feels pressured by his family. She then begs him to continue their relationship, claiming that they are meant to be "messed up together." Hades kisses Minthe and lets her stay the night, but while she's asleep, he writes a letter to Persephone, an assignment given to him by his therapist, and reveals that while his feelings for her are strong, he's continuing his relationship with Minthe out of guilt and feeling that she needs him more.

Now an official couple as stated on Fatesbook, Minthe takes the opportunity to kiss Hades in front of Persephone at work. She then becomes angry when Hecate calls her to tell her that Hades is taking Persephone on an Underworld Corp tour. While Hades is trying to keep his promise of distancing himself from Persephone, he instead finds himself falling for her more during the tour, which leads to the two almost kissing. Meanwhile, Minthe breaks off her casual fling with Thanatos while Hades is out. After seeing Hades with Persephone, she's quick to flirt with him until Persephone leaves to go home. The two make plans for dinner that night and while Hades preps and cooks, he is thinking about his day with Persephone. Minthe's friend Thetis, jealous that her affair with Zeus is going nowhere, takes Minthe out for drinks. She plays on Minthe's insecurities until Minthe drinks too much and she blackouts, wakes up in Thetis's home, and realizes she missed the date. Although she calls Hades, he sends her to voicemail.

A frustrated and angry Minthe arrives at work, believing Hades was with Persephone when she missed the dinner, and goes to confront him. After he tries to tell her that Thetis isn't her friend, she physically and verbally abuses him by striking him and claiming he looks like his abusive father, Kronos. After the intervention of an enraged Hecate, Minthe snaps out of her abusive episode, quickly appalled at her own actions. She is desperate to apologize, not understanding why she acted that way. Despite this attack and breaking down in tears with Hecate, Hecate suspends her from work, letting Hades be the one to decide if she's fired or not.

Officially over.

Officially over.

For days, Minthe is left depressed and sleeping most of the time, showing regret and concern over her relationship with Hades and the possibility of losing her job and her apartment. Meanwhile, Hades is struggling with his complicated feelings for Minthe and his growing love for Persephone. Hades tells his brothers that as much as he cares for Persephone, he doesn't want to cheat on Minthe. Poseidon points out that his emotional affair with Persephone could be just, if not more, damaging than a physical affair. Even after Persephone and Hades admit to having feelings for one another, they both agree that they have a lot going on, and while Persephone doesn't like Minthe, she does not want Minthe to be cheated on. It's not until Hades wakes up from a dream of imaging a life with Persephone where they're married and have a child, that he decides to finally end things with Minthe.

Despite her desire for another reconciliation, Hades rejects her. He tells her he wants to feel loved and safe all the time, which their relationship does not provide for him. When Minthe asks if he loves Persephone, he tells her, "As much as you can love someone you've only known for two weeks." Minthe is angered by his response, and resorts to taunting him, stating a relationship with Persephone would never last, as he's too much of a mess to be in a real relationship and will come back to her like he always does. While this statement angers and hurts him, he states that even if the relationship doesn't work out, he is done with Minthe. He allows her to keep her job and apartment out of goodwill.

In response, Minthe turns to manipulative tactics to win him back. She teams up with Thetis and Thanatos to find dirt on Persephone in an attempt to make Hades hate her. The three find evidence of Persephone's illegal act of wrath, and report Demeter and Persephone to Zeus.

Rejection

Hades rejects Minthe.

When Persephone goes missing, Minthe cleans out her desk, believing Hades has fired her. Unknown to her, Zeus still has not told Hades about the act of wrath. Hades instead snaps at her, telling her to leave Persephone's stuff alone and to do her job properly, infuriating Minthe. When Hermes discovers that the trio has told Zeus, he is quick to tell Minthe off by stating Persephone is Hades' "flavor." Ignoring Hermes' words, Minthe attempts to seduce Hades in his office as a desperate attempt to win him back, believing he was hurt by Persephone being charged with treason.

When she goes to reveal her lingerie under her trench coat, Hades quickly puts her coat back on and asks her to leave. Minthe snaps at Hades for being "still up [Persephone's] ass" even after her arrest warrant, which prompts Hades to call her out on her hypocrisy with Persephone being both "too perfect" for him and then "too wrathful" for him. He tells her that it might be both, and then gestures a furious Minthe to the door. Thanatos, having witnessed Persephone reveal herself to be in Hades' office after Minthe storms off, calls Minthe and tells her that he thinks Hades is choosing Persephone, which causes her to scream and hang up on him.

Days after the rejection, she attends a yoga class with Thetis. Thanatos, who has gone MIA after getting involved with a flower nymph named Daphne, once again tells her that Hades has moved on from her. Two Underworld nymphs reveal to Minthe that they had witnessed Hades and Persephone share a passionate kiss and that the whole Underworld knows about the two's relationship, except Minthe. Minthe arrives to work the next day, distraught and still in denial. Hades calls Minthe in for a meeting with him, which she believes is a sign he is taking her back. After trying to relive the past with him, Hades instead changes the subject and talks to her about potential job transfer options, as he feels being his personal assistant may be too painful for her. This causes Minthe to go off on Hades again, calling him a condescending lump of flesh, and insulting him about how he thinks he can just throw her away when he wants to.

She threatens to tell Persephone about his drinking problems, how he sulks, how he begs for her to not leave, and how he is infertile, insinuating that Persephone may be infertile as well if she is involved with him. Minthe then reveals she is responsible for reporting Persephone to Zeus and sent her to Tartarus to get rid of her. Persephone overhears her and begins to chase after her in rage, with Hades following. Persephone, filled with anger, curses Minthe and transforms her into a plant. While the two are still angry over her actions, they also feel guilty and try to break the curse. Hades is shown to be concerned over her wellbeing as a plant and even catches her when Persephone almost drops her out of shock.

Thanatos[]

Thanatos and Minthe

Thanatos and Minthe.

Thanatos and Minthe were coworkers at Underworld Corp and would occasionally hook up with each other, typically meeting in a storage room when one's workday was going poorly. Despite being unenthusiastic at hearing the news of Minthe and Hades' "official" relationship, and Minthe ending their fling, he accepted her decision. While it seems to have been implied that Thanatos had feelings for Minthe, it seemed unlikely that Minthe truly reciprocated it. They both shared a skepticism towards Persephone, mainly concerning her sudden job placement at Underworld Corp, both fueled by jealousy over Hades' attentions.

He seemed to care about Minthe, as he came to her apartment while she was suspended and brought her food, and later snooped for dirt on Persephone for Minthe's sake. When Thanatos got information from Helios about Persephone's illegal act of wrath, he, Thetis and Minthe told Zeus in the hopes that Persephone would be punished and banned from the Underworld.

When Hermes finds out that the trio snitched, he tells Thanatos that he is trying too hard to impress Minthe, and that she will never truly care about him. This prompts Thanatos to begin questioning his actions, with him being uncomfortable at the idea of Persephone potentially being given as harsh a punishment as Prometheus. Thanatos also begins to show reluctance at helping Minthe rekindle her long ruined relationship with Hades, as he believes Hades has well and truly moved on. Hermes' point was proven as Thanatos witnessed Minthe being rejected by Hades and him then sharing a moment with Persephone.

When Thanatos informs a raging Minthe about the encounter, bluntly telling her "I don't think [he's] interested in you," Minthe snaps at him, claiming he cannot "understand the complexities of [our] relationship" and hangs up on him. His following encounter with Daphne showcased him getting more and more regretful of his actions, and ultimately sees him starting to break away from the toxicities of Minthe and enter a healthier relationship with Daphne. He begins to ignore Thetis and Minthe.

Minthe was surprised when she saw Thanatos with Daphne at her gym class, asking him why he was there and where he has been lately. Despite Thanatos telling Minthe he was busy, she still interferes with his concentration by telling him she wasn't aware of his interest involving photography. In response, he tells Minthe that she didn't bother asking about his interests. Later on, while spending time with Daphne, Persephone, Hades, and other flower nymphs, Hades tells him that Minthe was accidentally turned into a plant by Persephone. Thanatos appears shocked and fearful, but does not seem overly concerned about Minthe's fate.

Friends[]

Thetis[]

Minthe and thetis

Thetis greeting Minthe and vice versa.

Minthe and Thetis had a toxic friendship. The two first met when Thetis was already working under Zeus, and Minthe was struggling to make ends meet. During their first meeting, Minthe saw Thetis recommend Anna, another one of Zeus' secretaries, to tell Zeus that she finds Hades creepy, causing her to be fired. Minthe found this behavior to be toxic, calling Thetis an "aqua bitch" in response, but Thetis found her comment amusing. When Minthe started working under Hades, the two became close friends.

Minthe often sought out Thetis for advice and comfort, and while she often provided it, Thetis also attempted to undermine Minthe. This was especially the case when Minthe was engaging in progress in having a healthy relationship with Hades. Thetis was jealous of Minthe's official relationship status with Hades, as her own relationship with Zeus was doomed to fail because he is married to Hera. The two would frequently rag on each other, insulting one another when they would meet up.

When Thetis found out Minthe would be having dinner with Hades, she decided to prevent Minthe from going by taking her out for drinks beforehand and getting her too drunk to meet him. After this occurred, Minthe attempted to stand her ground and cut Thetis off after realizing that Hades was right when he told her Thetis was not her friend. However, when Thanatos and Thetis come to her apartment with a plan to bring down Persephone, the two become friends once more.

After the trio find out and report that Persephone has committed an illegal act of wrath, Thetis assures Minthe that Hades will leave Persephone. However, when Hades instead scolds Minthe for thinking that Persephone is fired, she angrily calls Thetis to tell her that Hades doesn't know yet, and that they will pay the price if Thetis' plan fails. In Episode 151, Thetis discovers that the plan has indeed failed when she learns that Hades and Persephone kissed. Realizing the severity of her failure, Thetis tells Minthe that it's best if they aren't seen together until everything calms down, quickly dropping her so-called "friend." Later and unknown to Thetis, Minthe is accidentally cursed by Persephone and transformed into a plant.

During Persephone and Demeter's trial, Thetis discovers Minthe has been cursed. She breaks into Hades' home and brings the transformed plant-Minthe to the courthouse, demanding to report a 'murder.'

After Zeus' verdict and Persephone's punishment, the two do not see one another for ten years. Minthe is returned to her original form and living peacefully in the Mortal Realm. Thetis arrives with her son Achilles after hearing rumors about where Minthe could be found. Thetis comments on Minthe looking "terrible," showing she is still up to her old ways. When Minthe asks about the child, Thetis reveals that Achilles is her son, and that while he's part mortal (which she finds disgusting), he has talents that make up for it. She also reveals to Minthe that she's now a queen, which she says was "fun while it lasted" but now that realm travel is back, she wants to "wreak havoc again"

She then tells Minthe that her cousin told her about a rumor involving Hades, and to grab her stuff, as she is planning on meeting her in the city to go shopping. Minthe, seeing her old friend hasn't changed, tells her no. Thetis, not understanding, again tells her to grab her bag before Minthe finally explains that their friendship is toxic. She continues by explaining that she feels that when they're together, they bring out nothing but the worst in each other, noting that Thetis hasn't changed at all in the ten years they were apart.

Minthe explains she wants to officially end their friendship and wishes Thetis the best. As she walks away in a mature manner, Thetis, not happy that she can no longer take advantage of Minthe, hollers at her to go to hell.

Professional[]

Hecate[]

Hecate was Minthe's superior. Minthe showed high respect, bordering on fear, for Hecate. She quickly got her act together when prompted to by Hecate, and begrudgingly did things if Hecate asked. Hecate was patient towards Minthe and was willing to help her out in the past. However, after Minthe's outburst with Hades, Hecate found her actions deplorable and temporarily suspended her from her job.

Enemies[]

Hera[]

Hera is Hades' sister-in-law. She has shown an extreme disdain for Minthe and has long disapproved of the relationship between her and Hades. Minthe is well aware of the family's dislike of her but points out that Hera is the one who hates her the most. Hera has been seen gossiping with her sister-in-law, Amphitrite, about Minthe, and has called her trash in front of Hades. While Minthe puts up a brave front, she is truly hurt by what Hera thinks of her. Her low self-worth increased due to this, as she has even agreed with Hera's thoughts about her. At one point, Hera requested that Zeus tell Hades to not bring Minthe to their daughter's birthday party. She was greatly upset upon seeing that Hades not only brought Minthe, but that the two had got into a heated argument outside of her home.

Hades is well aware of Hera's hatred of Minthe, which resulted in him not confiding in her about his plans of proposing. After Minthe has an abusive episode towards Hades, Hera arrives shortly after, and suggests to Hades that she turn Minthe into a hideous beast for his sake. Hades declines and reveals his intention of proposing, and Hera is greatly hurt that he did not come to her about it. He argues that she would have never approved, and he did not want her judgement.

Minthe is also aware of Thetis' affair with Zeus but has chosen to stay quiet about it. When Thetis decides to send nudes of Zeus to Hera through a burner phone, Minthe advises her against it and fears what will happen when Hera finds out.

Persephone[]

Minthe perspehoen

Minthe meets Persephone.

Minthe is jealous of Persephone's connection with Hades and as a result, is vindictive and rude towards her. After finding the article with the two on the cover, she is furious, jealously stating that Persephone is not Hades' type. When she goes to confront him, she mocks Persephone, believing her to be a unintelligent flower nymph. Hades explains that Persephone is just the daughter of a friend, and while Minthe believes him, she is still angry. Upon seeing Persephone in person when she arrives at Underworld Corp, Minthe tries to get rid of her. She gives her directions to Tower 4, a dangerous restricted area.

Minthe comes to regret her actions, especially after learning who Persephone really is, but does not confess to her prank gone wrong. Minthe is especially angry when seeing Hades holding Persephone in his arms as they leave Tower 4. When Hades introduces the two women, Minthe is shocked to learn that Persephone has not told Hades what she did and is rather confused when Persephone pretends to have not met her earlier. Minthe takes Hades away so that they can talk, but they end up arguing. After she comes home, she angrily grabs the Barely Mother cereal box, which has Persephone as the mascot, and tries to convince herself that she doesn't care about Hades wanting Persephone. She eventually goes to Hades' home that night and breaks down in his arms, not wanting him to end their relationship for Persephone.

Minthe rubbing her relationship in Persephone's face.

Minthe rubs her relationship with Hades in Persephone's face.

When Hades and Minthe start an "official" relationship, she rubs it in Persephone's face by kissing Hades in front of her and talking about all the great things he does for her. Despite her behavior, Persephone is continually respectful of Minthe and Hades' relationship. When Hades questions Persephone about how she got to Tartarus, she briefly imagines what would happen to Minthe if she tells the truth. She quickly banishes the thought, however, and doesn't reveal that it was Minthe's fault, out of concern for the repercussions she would face.

During a night out, Thetis puts it in Minthe's head that Hades purposely hired Persephone as a way for the two to continue seeing each other. At work the next morning, Minthe fears that Hades was with Persephone the night before, as he didn't answer her calls when she woke up. When she finds Hades, she devolves into yelling at him and then slapping him when he tries to tell her how Thetis is a bad friend. She mocks Hades for being an expert in behavior because he was with Persephone. The argument spirals out of control as Minthe tells Hades that no one, not even Persephone, would want to be with him when he is the spitting image of his father.

Persephone is never made aware of this argument. After Hades and Persephone admit to having feelings for one another, Persephone reveals how horrible she feels for not caring or thinking about Minthe's feelings. As much as Persephone and Hades care for one another, both agree that Minthe should not be cheated on and Persephone decides to set boundaries with Hades for Minthe's sake.

After Hades breaks up with Minthe, she blames Persephone for it and vows to get Hades back. Meanwhile, Persephone is overcome with guilt when finding out about the breakup, but Hades assures her that she wasn't the reason for it.

Thanatos, Thetis, and Minthe start digging up dirt on Persephone. At work, Persephone tells Minthe that she'll show Hecate the bad directions she gave her on her first day if she refuses to show her how to use the computer program. Minthe begrudgingly helps her, but while she does she also begins to tell her how loving Hades was in the beginning of their relationship, and that he'll soon come back to her when he sees that Persephone isn't the girl he thought she was. When Persephone questions what she's talking about, Minthe calls her Kore in a sinister tone. Minthe then leaves with Thanatos, who whispers in her ear while looking at Persephone in horror.

Thanatos tells Minthe about Persephone's act of Wrath, and she, Thanatos, and Thetis tell Zeus what Persephone did and how Demeter covered it up. Minthe is overjoyed thinking that Persephone will be punished by Zeus, and Hades will come back to her. However, when Hades scolds Minthe for thinking Persephone is fired, Minthe is infuriated that Hades still cares for her.

Mint

Persephone apologizes for what she did.

After Hades discovers the truth, his feelings for Persephone do not change, much to Minthe's rage. Thanatos tells her about seeing the couple in his office after she failed to seduce Hades, and two Underworld employees tell Minthe how they caught Hades and Persephone in a tender kiss. Minthe is in denial about the reality that Hades has truly moved on from her and is in love with Persephone.

When Minthe is called in to Hades' office to talk about a job transfer, the final rejection causes her to spiral. She goes off on Hades, asking if Persephone is there, telling him that she'll tell her all the things she should expect in a relationship with him. During her rant, she lets it slip that she told Zeus about Persephone's act of wrath. Persephone, who has overheard, is enraged that Minthe is responsible for ruining her and her mother's life. This finally pushes Persephone over the edge, resulting in her chasing Minthe down, cornering her, and then cursing her into a mint plant. When Persephone's rage cools, she is immediately regretful and tries everything she can to reverse the transformation but is unable to. Hecate, also unable to break the curse, states that Hades and Persephone are now Minthe's guardians until they can revert her back. Persephone apologizes to Minthe, as Minthe can still hear everything as a plant.

During the trial, Thetis breaks into Hades's home and steals Minthe, bringing her to the trial and claiming Persephone has "murdered" her. Persephone corrects her and reveals that Minthe is still alive, just cursed. Zeus asks if Persephone can change her back, only for Persephone to explain that she hasn't figured that out yet. As a part of her punishment, Zeus orders Persephone to figure out how to turn Minthe back.

Three years after the trial, Persephone turns Minthe back to normal. A newly restored Minthe is deeply upset with Persephone and immediately attempts to leave the Mortal Realm and get away from her. However, a giddy Persephone reveals to Minthe that she is unable to leave due to the punishment. Despite Minthe's rude demeanor towards her, Persephone still offers her a place on her mother's farm, and Minthe starts to live in the Mortal Realm alongside Persephone and other nymphs. Eventually, Minthe's stay in the Mortal Realm becomes healing for her, and it appears she has lost her ire towards Persephone.
