Let's not tell your mom about this, okay?
― Artemis, Ep 11

Artemis is the Goddess of the Hunt and a member of The Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood. She is Persephone's roommate and the twin sister of Apollo.

Appearance

Artemis is a goddess with violet skin and darker purple hair. Her hair is long and styled with bangs, and she frequently wears it down or in a half-up half-down style. While on Olympus, she is often seen wearing sweatpants and workout clothing in shades of purple and white.

While in the Mortal Realm, Artemis wears a white, sleeveless tunic with a high neckline made of chainmail and a shawled cape with shoulder pauldrons. She also wears a white mask around her eyes and white open-toed shoes with leg greaves. She is frequently seen carrying a bow or spear.

Personality

Artemis is mature, honest, and confident. She often acts as a mom friend and voice of reason to Persephone. Although she worries for Persephone and wants her to understand the dangers of Olympus, she also encourages her to explore the world for herself and disagrees with Demeter's helicopter parenting. Artemis often bumps heads with her brother Apollo over his sexist comments, but is largely oblivious to the extent and is quick to defend him otherwise. When Persephone starts to bring up something concerning him, Artemis is shown to be worried. This indicates that, despite her love for her brother, she would take accusations against him seriously. She is competitive and quick to prove her potential, and knows what she's good at. She may appear at first to be abrasive and intimidating, but is genuine and cares for her friends. For example, She is quick to apologize to Persephone, after she believes she hurt her feelings, by baking her an apology cake.

Relationships

Persephone

Persephone is Artemis’s roommate and close friend. When Persephone was first inducted into the Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood, Artemis was quick to realize she seemed uncomfortable with the arrangement and that her mother, Demeter, was clearly very controlling. She argued with Demeter for Persephone to be able to move to Olympus, and further offered to have Persephone live with her. She is shown to be eager for Persephone to experience freedom away from her mother, taking her to a party soon after she arrives on Olympus. On the flip side, she still has concern for Persephone's safety and tries to look out for her best interests.

She is distrustful of Hades and disapproves of Persephone seeing him, although she realizes that she may have been too overbearing over their budding relationship and has tried to give Persephone the benefit of the doubt. Despite her distrust of Hades, she is largely oblivious to Persephone's discomfort over Apollo. When Persephone starts to reveal what Apollo did to her, Artemis is very concerned, although Persephone is quick to take it back over fear of hurting her.

Apollo

Apollo is Artemis’s younger twin brother who she is very close to. She greatly trusts and often defends him and his actions. She is, however, aware of how he can be and reprimands him when he acts out, quick to show how much she dislikes his sexist comments. Despite this, she still allows him to visit her 'No Men Allowed' house. Although Artemis is largely oblivious to Persephone's discomfort and dislike of him, she eventually becomes concerned about her brother when Persephone seems to bring him up in a negative tone, speculating that there may be something he is hiding from her.

Hades

Artemis is aware of Zeus and Poseidon's numerous affairs and hedonistic lifestyles, believing Hades to be the same and consequently distrusting him as well, becoming wary when Persephone becomes close to him. She appears to treat him rather harshly in comparison to his more promiscuous brother Zeus, showing that her distaste for the God of the Underworld is somewhat biased.

Hermes

They both get along very well, and although reluctantly, she allows Hermes inside her house despite her "No Men Allowed" policy. It appears Hermes enjoys pushing her buttons, doing things to deliberately make her angry for his amusement.

Hestia

Artemis and hestia

Artemis uncomfortable over Hestia's treatment of Persephone.

As fellow members of the Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood, they appear to be friendly with one another. Hestia was proud that Artemis offered Persephone a place to stay on Olympus, although she seems less lenient when it comes to allowing Persephone certain freedoms. Artemis appears upset when Hestia manipulates Persephone into giving her the coat she received from Hades in exchange for her silence over the tabloid article. It also appears Artemis is easily bored during TGOEM meetings, often falling asleep when Hestia gives presentations.

Athena

Artemis and Athena are both members of the Goddesses of Eternal Maidenhood. Artemis appears to trust her, as she was comfortable enough to vent to her about how Persephone was being treated. Athena appears to agree with her regarding giving Persephone more freedom, indirectly encouraging Artemis to stand up to Hestia and Demeter.

Power and abilities

  • Artemis is proficient in using several weapons, including her trademark bow and arrow, a spear, and combat knives. She is skilled in archery and is an experienced hunter.
  • She has the ability to shape-shift into a deer. She used the form of a purple fawn to eavesdrop on Demeter and Persephone. It is unknown if she can also shape-shift into other animals or other forms in general.
  • She appears to be able to open portals to the Mortal Realm from Olympus (and vice versa) at will.

Trivia

  • Artemis is training to be a Sacred Virgin.
  • When asked by Persephone if she was ever in love, Artemis sheepishly claims to have never been. This could be seen as a reference to Orion, Artemis' hunting companion in Greek mythology.
  • According to Rachel Smythe, Artemis and Apollo are not Zeus' children in this series, unlike in classical Greek mythology
